Sam Rice, E-RYT 500, has been teaching since 2007. Sam is known for her diligent and detailed alignment instructions, that are delivered with great skill, passion, and humor, offering students the opportunity to find renewed depth in practice. Sam is also known for her progressive sequencing with the ability to breakdown the component parts of asana postures to make them more accessible and offer insight for refinement. Sam Rice is the Lead Teacher Trainer for yogahour and has designed the yogahour 200-hour Teacher Training curriculum that is used throughout studios internationally and nationwide. Sam Rice also leads 300-hour Advanced Teacher Trainings. She teaches as a guest teacher in numerous other 200-hour and 300-hour teacher trainings.
The four workshop sessions will take place at Balancing Monkey Yoga Studio, located in the Hilo Shopping Center at 1221 Kilauea Avenue in Hilo. Space is limited and advance registration is encouraged. Cost is $40 per session or $130 for all four sessions. Register at www.balancingmonkeyyoga.com.

In yoga asana, the shoulder and hip regions are sometimes referred to as the four corners of the body. When we stabilize and mobilize the shoulders and hips, it can lead to a greater sense of freedom. In this workshop, we will explore rotation, extension and flexion of the hips and shoulders to create more spaciousness throughout the body.
Enhance and Expand Your Practice Using Props

Props are designed to give access to a deeper understanding of our bodies in relationship to the yoga postures. Many times people think props are for making poses “easier”. Props have the potential for so much more. With conscious use of props, we can make our practices deeper and refined. In this workshop, we will explore how the intelligent use of props and sequencing can deepen your understanding of how your body moves in relationship to the yoga postures.

Hip Openings and Arm Balances

What is required to do an arm balance is so much more than arm strength. Depending on the type of arm balance, it can be extremely beneficial to open your hips to make the shapes more accessible. Intricate and nuanced strengthening actions can also help the poses become light and buoyant. In this workshop, we will explore and break down the component parts of a few key arm balance postures. Expect to work hard at whatever stage you’re at and learn effective techniques along the way.
